| I was introduced to this rules set for Star Wars fighter combat using the Silent Death rules and was wondering if any of you guys have tried it.
http://www.wizards.com/starwars/downloads/SW_Silent_Death.pdf
Its fighters only(X/Y/A/B- Wings and TIEs) but alot more detailed and complex. I've had a read through the rules and it looks interesting but will take sometime to play.

| | Interesting idea. I will look into it. A couple things I noticed were that the stat system with the different ships is completely different, and the game only has stats for the original trilogy starfighters. The other thing I noticed was that the game is played on hex map. These two things would make conversion difficult. | | "Look to God and live." | | Actually, all we'll need are the miniatures that we've got with SSB. The PDF file has all the rules including the stats for the fighters. | | | |

| Unfortunately no stats for the prequel stuff, just the original trilogy. Although it doesn't look difficult to develop stats for the other fighters.
X-wing Y-wing A-wing B-wing

As to the scale, I'm not sure what you mean. The base size for SSB is smaller than the hexes that Silent Death is played on and of course different shape. The SSB bases have a notch on them to indicate facing so its shouldn't be a problem at all really. I'm looking to arrange a game at my LGS to see how it is.

| Actually, I was senior editor of Star Wars Gamer at the time, and the article was my idea. Erik Dewey worked at Iron Crown Enterprises. We basically went to ICE and said, "We know you play Star Wars Silent Death around the office. How about you write that up for us and we'll promote your game for basically free?"
I knew they had it because Monte Cook got his start at ICE, and he mentioned it when he and I used to play Silent Death together. He had his own Star Wars version for Silent Death too. Good times!
Silent Death is a fun game with innovative dice mechanics. The rules are more "gamey" than the d20-style fare we've become accustomed to, but they're worth plumbing, IMO. For the low, low price of a free download, I encourage you to give it a shot. | | Jeff Quick, Philadelphia 22 Successful Trades: benimoto, bonepinhamer, bradu, Changeling, dnd3eplayer, drowdude, Drift, Gausse, Ghendar, Ihawk, ikill4adollar, Khaibit_ema_Neteru, Lance H, marjorie, MeepoTheMighty, mulkhoran, Puggins, Ryngard, vrecknidj, wuzzard, xbrendanx, Zenako (x2) Pending Trades:

| | Is this a one off thing or are you all planning to update it with stats for the new fighters that are available in SSB? | | | |

| This game is the main reason I started buying up the new Star Wars minis.
I used to play with the micomachines, but could never find enough of them.
In my opinion Silent Death was one of the best miniatures rules out there.

| If you're looking for an alternate game to use your SSB minis, then may I suggest Full Thrust? I don't have the url but I found the game on wikipedia. You can download the full rulebook and expansions from the official site for free. I've found it is very easy to intergrate the SSB stats into Full Thrust rules with little or no tweaking.

| evilmerlin: It was just a one-off for the magazine, though there are ship creation rules in the Silent Death boxed set.
Also, I don't work at Wizards any more, and Star Wars Gamer is a distant memory. =) But it was good times when we did it! | | Jeff Quick, Philadelphia 22 Successful Trades: benimoto, bonepinhamer, bradu, Changeling, dnd3eplayer, drowdude, Drift, Gausse, Ghendar, Ihawk, ikill4adollar, Khaibit_ema_Neteru, Lance H, marjorie, MeepoTheMighty, mulkhoran, Puggins, Ryngard, vrecknidj, wuzzard, xbrendanx, Zenako (x2) Pending Trades:
