 | | 03/13/2008 1:57 PM | Alert | so the core: Frost Giant Jarl Wulfgar
Wulfgar can grant the Jarl extra attacks once when it gets bloodied and once whenever he wants. the attack of the jarl includes a followup so essentially the jarl gets 4 free attacks from the already powerful Wulfgar. i cant wait to playtest this.

You know, it's too bad the Dread Wraith costs so much. With Insubstantial and Enervation (from the LShD), the combo could be intimidating.

I just hope this sucky warband won't be viable now. | |

As is they are close and very close to viable singularly with the deathknights who boosts them to +24 and their first 2 hits are +20 dmg... Barring an untimely crit they are solid... Well insubstantial really but you get it...
Wulfgar+jarl... 2 great pieces put together make one great combo...

I read about triple-shadow at WotC boards, where it is great concern - 1st turn(!) 3 breaths at high bonus & enervating & allowing to teleport away... Uglier than ever.

I read the same "discussion". Trips Shadow, again, makes my stomach turn. I hope that there is at least a counter to it.Â
To the thread, I thin FGJ is the real deal. I kinda of like him paired with the Eternal Blade.Â
Either way, 1 or 2 misses with the FGJ, which also means no follow up ATT, IMO one is hosed. A high variance piece / warband. But solid and viable none the less.Â

He has +23 with fllank, so he shouldn't miss much. Then, he has his hammer against swarms with radius 2, with Blade +19 against Fort.
His problem is fire. Archons, Salamander, LGD,  maybe even flying Large Fire Elemental.

 | | 03/19/2008 1:22 PM | Alert | Hmm,
By using the Death Knight to bring in the Dread Wraith, you can also use the Eternal Blade (though this is about all the points you'll get).
The Dread Wraith is now a bit tougher, and considerably tougher against certain types of opponents.
Death Knight Eternal Blade Dread Wraith Farmer x2 Some 5-point chump
Really low on activations, but it might be fun.

I've now had a chance to see both the EB + FJG and Wulfgar + FJG bands in action. Based on only seeing one game of each, I'd have to say that the Wulfgar version seems stronger. It is very easy to take out key pieces quickly when using Wulfgar's champion power and his other ability which gives a free attack. The version I played also had a warhorse for Wulfgar which allowed him amazing flexibility to drop 40 (or 55 if the horse hits too) damage with a high attack bonus. My map of choice was Dragon Graveyard. The match was against an Exarch/Elf Conjurer wild band. In the second round, I was able to make it almost clear across the map and charged his conjurer and rolled a 1. I then used Wulfgar's champion power to try again and was able to kill the elf (and cleave into the Exarch). It was pretty downhill after that for my opponent.
When I played against EB+FGJ I was using Lady Vol on a Nightmare and it wasn't even close. I won my map (which was Drow Outpost) and proceeded to plug up the bridge with a horde of Boneshard Skeletons. Not wanting to be *too* cheap, I used Vol's poison cone first which decimated his warband. Moreover, FGJ failed the save so ended up taking a total of 50 damage from it. The Boneshards did the rest, blowing up for 15 damage each (and one got a crit on his deathburst for a total of 40 damage). The giant had been reduced to 10 hp and died when it activated from the ongoing poison. He only managed to get one good swing in. Despite 30AC and conceal 11, he managed to hit with both attacks against Vol who took 75 damage and was stunned. Luckily, I could retreat to safety as the damage had been done.
Overall, I think the band is very strong but does have all its eggs in one basket. I don't think it's good enough to be a top contender but it should get you a winning record against an decent field. | | A Proud Gelatinous Dude
