| Thanks for the info!
I've got minis from the late '70s on up, and I don't remember that one; how old is it? EDIT: I did my internet homework; it's from those horrendous TSR metal minis released in '84. I must have blotted them from my memory.
Man, it's good to see the old AD&D Monster Manual image up there at the top; I've always wanted a roper that looked like that picture. There weren't too many good pics in the old MM, but the Roper, Lich & Succubus pictures I remember fondly. | | Life's a bowl of cultists.... _______________________________ Champion of the Scale-Creep Resistance ________________________ Champion of the Black Pudding | |

| What I liked about most 1st Ed art is that it looks like the adventurers themselves drew it, like "Hey we fought this thing, know what it is?"

| I'm very fond of the UD roper, but it would be great to get another with a more dynamic pose.

| I actually don't see much difference between the UD one and the 4e art. the UD Roper looks more like the 4e artwork than like the 3.5E artwork IMHO. I do love it though,

They came out in '83 or so; they ware actual toys, not minis, and caused much embarrassment and distress (at least to me), much like the 1st D&D movie (shudder). Some were bendy toys (carrion crawler, roper, otyugh, grell) and the others were static. They were about 6-8 inches in size.
