| | If you wouldn't have said it's a duplo dragon, I would have believed it to be an early preview of the dragon in Demonweb. | | Champion of Regis | |

| Okay okay okay...I feel the need to pipe in and defend this set a little.
Understand that I don't have figs in hand, but many pieces appear to look great. And these are not the words of a 4th ed. zombie-I'm a devoted old school player for some fifteen odd years.
Huge wise, the Fire Titan and Elder white look great. (if you're old school like me, use Advanced Bestiary to make a Jotunblood fire giant) The Umber Hulk is very nice, even if the color is off (in my game very old Umber Hulks' Carapace hardens and darkens as they age) Death Titan looks passable. The Elder Red just needs a chestnut wash (citadel chestnut Ink works great, or sepia india ink). The Huge air elemental and huge earth elemental are both quite passable. Huge carrion Crawler just needs eyes. The blackroot Treant, while a goofy concept, isn't terrible looking. Armored Gulvoorg is not my cup of tea, but I'll find a use for it.
Yuan-Ti smiler and Chain lump are embarassing, given, but ah well. 10/12 passable, with the White Dragon being the star of the set.
For Larges, The Owl Bear finally looks hulking and bearish, with a nice two-tone color scheme. The Roper looks great. Angel of Ret, while not my style, looks amazing. Boneclaw looks great. Efreeti Flamestrider is ready to be a contender for BBEG Fire Giant Raider is a welcome return and looks good Voracious Ice Devil is passable, and variety is nice. Adamantium dragon is passable (where the hell is our new large Blue, however?)
Storm Giant and Shocktroop devil are embarassing, especially considering both could have been MUCH better figs (how about a rare Malebranche and a Large Frost Giant?)...8 out of 10 passable figs
and the remaining...The Xorn, Visceral Devourer, Gnaw Demon, Ochre Jelly, Hobgoblin, Bug Bear, and cockatrice all look great for their respective cattegories. Doresain and the priest of Orcus should make great villains. Cave Bear, Fire Bat, Blazing Skeleton, orc zombie, Lurking Wraith, Kobold, Goblin and Lizardfolk are all passable monsters, especially to new players. Both Dwarves, Both Dragonborn, The Eladrin Wizard and the Book wielding wizard, The Tiefling Gladiator, The Halfling, the Assassin, the rogue and the captain of the watch would all be respectable PC figs or NPC characters.
The Ghoul, Wasp, Galeb Duhr, Shifter, Rat, Blademaster, Elf archer and muscle-freak are all a bit fugly... 29 out of 38.
Total we hav the unlucky 13 of ugly...and even some of them are passable.
so-it's hardly the worst set we have ever gotten...

| All I can say is that when I pulled a Storm Giant from a AtG booster that had the Storm Giant on the box, I just was shocked. I know that some paint jobs are better than others, but the image on the box has so many details painted while the one in the gallery and in my hand are, well, very unfinished. It's weird. I like a bunch of AtG but, well, yeah. The Storm Giant being on the box and being completely painted feels criminal somehow. Whoever did the photos did a good job but custom repaints shouldn't be on the box. And that, is the last thing I'll say negatively about how this set looks.-jared | | | |
