To be fair, aren't a lot of the monsters they rehashed from older sets that new collectors like myself wouldn't necessarily find easily? Old Rares are a lot harder to snag than New Rares, so it makes sense for some Iconic monsters. I'm not a fan of rehashed minis, but, well, yeah. Complaining about rehashes from sets as old as Archfiends or Giants of Legend is just silly...from what I've seen the majority of players who were playing then are different folks now.
...
:sigh:

I'm biased. I'd rather get a 4th edition monster/creature now rather than wait until they restat it for a set that's 7th in line to be restat'd and still no date for that is set.

Here are the minis I counted (plus an addition or two) as rescultps (which do vary in price/availability and may have a very reasobable proxy for RPG use):

Boneclaw Impaler (Boneclaw)
Blazing Skeleton (Burning Skeleton)
Cave Bear (Celestial Black Bear)
Elf Arcane Archer (Arcane Archer, Half-Elf Bow Initiate, almost any elf with a bow not in armor)
Efreeti Flamestrider (Efreeti)
Elder Red Dragon (Huge Red Dragon)
Fire Giant Raider (Fire Giant)
Furious Owlbear (Owlbear, Owlbear Rager)
Goblin Runner (Goblin Skirmisher, Goblin Picador)
Lizardfolk Raider (Lizardfolk, Darktalon Champion)
Ochre Jelly (Ochre Jelly)
Orc Zombie (Horde Zombie)
Roper (Roper)
Ravenous Dire Rat (Dire Dart, Diseased Dire Rat, Rat Swarm)
Voracious Ice Devil (Ice Devil)
Xorn Ravager (Xorn)

Old one was a Rare, albeit a very available one - Boneclaw Impaler (Boneclaw)
Old one was a C/U given how few were available - Blazing Skeleton (Burning Skeleton)
Old one was a C and very common - Cave Bear (Celestial Black Bear)
Old ones were mostly Rare and hard to find - Elf Arcane Archer (Arcane Archer, Half-Elf Bow Initiate, almost any elf with a bow not in armor)
Old one was a rare but not too hard to find - Efreeti Flamestrider (Efreeti)
Old one was a very expensive rare - Elder Red Dragon (Huge Red Dragon)
Old one was a somewhat rare rare - Fire Giant Raider (Fire Giant)
Old one (Owlbear very hard to come by)(Rager is not that hard to find) - Furious Owlbear (Owlbear, Owlbear Rager)
Old ones were common and commonly found - Goblin Runner (Goblin Skirmisher, Goblin Picador)
Old ones were U and sometimes hard to find - Lizardfolk Raider (Lizardfolk, Darktalon Champion)
Old one was a R and semi hard to find - Ochre Jelly (Ochre Jelly)
Old one was an U but there are a lot of C zombies too - Orc Zombie (Horde Zombie)
Old one was a rare - Roper (Roper)
Old one was a "Dire Dart"""lol - not easy to find most people keep all they have - Ravenous Dire Rat (Dire Dart, Diseased Dire Rat, Rat Swarm)
Old one was a rare and somewhat rare to find - Voracious Ice Devil (Ice Devil)
Old one was a U and sometimes hard to find - Xorn Ravager (Xorn)

So overall only a couple of the rescupts really have any issues if the goal was to try and provide a rounded suite of figures for current generations of buyers.  For those of us in since the beginning, the utility of many of these resulpts is lessened and for anyone who worries about the "worth" of the old minis, rescupts generally only affect that value slightly since a COllector still wants the original version anyway.

Built the addition for this addiction, now on to the "gaming table" project....

Zenako - I'm not worried about the value of my collection at all. I would just like to see resculpts spaced out a bit more. One-fourth of the set as resculpts if a bit much to me. I wouldn't mind a few resculpts a set.

And as a response:

Old ones were U and sometimes hard to find - Lizardfolk Raider (Lizardfolk, Darktalon Champion)

The Dark Talon Champion is a common from Night Below and IMO the best looking lizardfolk we have.

Old one was an U but there are a lot of C zombies too - Orc Zombie (Horde Zombie)

The Horde Zombie from War Drums is a common.

Old one was a "Dire Dart"""lol - not easy to find most people keep all they have - Ravenous Dire Rat (Dire Dart, Diseased Dire Rat, Rat Swarm)

Opps...Dire RAT! I have several for trade/sale (19 to be exact) if anyone is interested. I had 30 of each of the Dire Rat and Diseased Dire Rat at one point. A bit of overkill if you ask me.

Hold up, is the new boneclaw an uncommon for sure? nm, I checked my gallery...

I also don't see how the darktalon is the same as the lizardfolk, it's not holding the same weapon, nor does it look like the standard lizardfolk.

Primative weapon?  check.  Lizard body w/tail and frill/fin?  check.Â

I said the ones I listed are reasonable proxies or resculpts.  In this case, a dark talon champion could serve well in place of a new Lizardfolk Raider.  Plus the paint job is WAY better on the Dark Talon Champion.

To be honest, my in depth knowledge on the more recent sets and the rarity pales compared to my knowledge for the earlier sets....sigh.

I do agree that for us long time collectors get more of the same but only slightly different monsters/figures can be and is annoying. BUT it does give more flexibility for RPG games to have 3 different figures for the same type of mob in an encounter. I know troll encounters in 2008 are nothing like Troll encounters from back in 2006....grin.

I think worrying about "worth" or value from a collectors standpoint is useless.

These will all be worth less than the plastic they are made from soon enough.

If ppl collect these as an investment of some type, they shouldn't be Lol.

woah now, if you're going to generalize to that degree, you could throw multiple humans and dwarves on the barbie too. Advanced weapon? check. humanoid body and clothing? check. ;)

Now you're just wanting to argue.

But that does bring up a good point: with all the available rqace/class/weapon combos, why are we seeing the same old thing?  At least this time we got (a new) Dwarf with sword instead of axe/hammer.  Where are all the 'exotic' weapons?  Where are all the OA types?  Where's the flippin common human foot soldier with bow?!

I assume you also had the same opinion about little pieces of cardboard as well....

(take your pick - Baseball cards, MtG cards, etc)

All collectible have a secondary market and a knowledgeable collector can benefit from those markets...

First actual pic of a mini - the Drow Demonbinder. I'm glad it's a rare since I don't need more than 0 of them. ;)

Do we know the Demonbinder is rare? Despite having an overabundance of arms, it looks like a fairly simple 2 piece sculpt and paint job...

(By the way, Greyhaze, the Hordelings thread link on the spoiler page for it should probably be post_id 158051 instead).

The 1st spoiler came from the booster art, the second was from the wotc site.

I'm guessing the purple one is a repaint? The one on the box is red, correct?

Art pics in boosters usually point to rare minis. I know there are exceptions like the Treant in GoL or the Imp in AngelFire, but most tend to be rares.
