So, I have heard a few folks chattering about the Efreeti dude, the Tiefling Gladiator, and the Skullcleave Warrior.  There are a handful of interesting new pieces in Against the Giants, but, I haven't had time to find all the mixes and matches yet.

Given that there's a chance the All Stars won't be ready for GenCon, and even if they are, that not enough people will have time to test so that an earlier, somewhat stable meta would be the de facto meta, it's certainly time to star the chatter.

Some will lie about what they're working on, to throw others off the trail, others will expose everything they see and hear.

What have you seen being built?  What were you working on but ditched?

I was really hoping that I could make my dual Astral Stalker, dual Large Shadow Dragon band work.  With lots of walls, and great places to Hide, I figured I had a chance.  But, the Skullcleave Warrior pretty much ruins the value of conceal, and I figure I'll be seeing a ton of them.  So, it's back to the drawing board.

You?

You know, I'm liking that Voracious Ice Devil. There aren't many things that can reliably hit it, it has almost enough hit points without a bodyguard, and it has a nice bag of tricks.

Yeah, I'm not thinking there's much in the way of secret titan builds these days. While I think that the Large Gold Dragon would be, at best, a spoiler build, I think that the Ice Devil has a much better shot at victory. I don't know about going undefeated, but, with Speed 8, it even has a chance on the Flooded Ruins map.

hmmm... I'll not be going unless things change drastically. Skullcleave is definately in but I'm unsure about thier use in the championship maps. 55pts for one and a warhorse doesn't sit too well with me; then what else would you put in? If you go EB or wulfgar you're seriously lacking range and activations. They are nasty but I'm not sure about them and the champ maps.

Something to fear might actually be the tomebound arcanist. +18 vs def burst 2 sight unlimited confusion could absolutely ruin your day. If one of your major figs spends the game hitting your own pieces or doing nothing and one other piece does the same I think it would be hard to recover. He shredded a lot of pieces (epics too) in our prerelease.

Enter thrall of blackblade. He will be everywhere! Virt charger got a big friend in the hellwasp so expect to see her too.

I see the arcane archer as totally viable. I seriously doubt we'll see 3-4 in a band but 1-2 will be about. Laying down 40dmg to a piece on a start area without LOS or taking out 2 fodder in the first turn even is very tactically useful. And he's awefully sturdy to boot! Thank heavens he wasn't BL or I would expect to see them with EB and/or skyfire capt.

I'm working on galeb duhrs myself (without much luck)... Again they performed very well in the prerelease, yes even against epics, so I'd give em a look. Big att, big hp, decent dmg, decent ac and def, burrow mitigates slowness to a managable level. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Rock Bottom Pricing:
Arcane Archer 30, Centaur Hero 67, Human Cleric of Bane 25, Gold Champion 34, Death Knight 52, Goblin Blackblade 9, Silentwolf Goblin 7, Orc Raider 10, Dwarf axefighter 9, Healer 9, Thaskor 65, Aspect of Demogorgon 71, Ogre 9, Fire Giant 79, Human Wanderer 7, Drunken Master 18, Barghest 12, Longstider Barbarian 27, Longtooth Barbarian 22, Frost Giant 76, Ravenous Vampire 42, Large Earth Elemental: priceless

The possibility of dual Elf Arcane Archers means that we probably won't see many Wild Mages in Wild. We may see them with Merchan Guards in Borderlands though.

Thrall of Blackrazor is just an all-around good piece. I expect to see him in several championship bands. As Civilization grows more powerful, his likelihood of appearing improves.

Tomebound is potentially useful, but, it suffers from dual Elf Arcane Archers, and will get mopped by Thrall or Virtuous Chargers.

Wandering Monsters have lost their flair. They're not nearly as useful against the current meta, especially given the maps.

the beauty of the tomebound is the radius sight fx... The mindflayer lich is toast with nearest only but the tomebound just targets somthing else. With the thrall unique and the virt charger techy neither is showing in numbers currently. I expect some tomebound and bg bands for sure.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Tomebound Arcanist in a few bands at GenCon--both in the Grinder and in the Championships. I really am not a big fan of Confusion, because I don't like relying on the alternative role, and I don't like its swinginess. In that regard, it's a little like the old Beholder.
