| I recently picked up a few Mage Knight castle pieces and think they are great. I also discovered that Mage Knight offered 3D dungeon pieces (walls, floors, artifacts, etc). I am looking into getting more, but first I would like to hear the pros and cons of the Mage Knight items and the really nice looking Dwarven Forge items.
Thanks. | | Originally posted by Schooly_D Username - he deals in minis Champion of Lhesh Haruuc Shaarat'kor

Yeah, those castle pieces are pretty high on themselves.
But seriously, The mage knight dungeon pieces do not form a 1 inch grid, they are like 1.5 inch or more. Way too big for DDM. They also are not very versitile. No diagonals, no curves, just 10' sections that can be lined up or make 90 degree turns.
As for Dwarven Forge. I love it... but....
1. It's EXPENSIVE, and you would need ALOT to truly be versitile with it.
2. It's difficult to use at the table, unless you can set it up ahead of time. But then that presents the problem of the players seeing parts of the setup you might not want them to right away.
3. It' difficult to store (IMO), and takes up alot of room.
4. It can be difficult to move miniatures around in the confined spaces of some pieces and setups.
What I have done is only setup an important combat encounter area ahead of time on a different card table and cover it up. Then when that encounter happened, we would move to that table.
I did build the entire upper level of the Moathouse from Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil with Dwarven Forge. It was hug and took almost all of my DF pieces (and I have alot!)
We have lately been using the "dungeon tiles" for build-as-you-go dungeon adventuring. Sooo much easier.

It was hug
Was it? That is quite affectionate!
But seriously ( ), thanks. I think I will pass on the 3D dungeons pieces and stick with maps/dungeon tiles for that. I may still get a few castle pieces since they're just fun to mess with.

| | waht are tactiles? mageknight is a pain to build. i bought some floor pieces and they are supposed to snap together. its a waste of time. Dwarven forge as said earlier is expensive,to bulky to transport (IMHO), and not really the best for setting up on the go. If You DM at home and have lots of cash then go for it. The dungeons and caverns are really nice and perfect for d&D. | | The ROCK layeth the smacketh down. | Dungeon Tiles, DDM Maps, and a large Vinyl battlemat, means I can do almost anything.
I have some cool terrain stuff, too.

They're 10x10 grids that fit together like puzzle pieces. I ordered 12. They use dry erase markers. I just went to look for them online, but it appear the company went belly up. :*( | | Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60, Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger. | I've been thinking about using the mageknight walls along with some foamcore to build some lightweight dungeons. I do agree the floor tiles are a bit big for DDM and are a bit of a pain to snap together.

| I just purchased 2x boxes of the 3D Mage Knight Dungeon tiles and honestly think they're pretty good. Yes the grid isn't 1" and they can be a pain to snap together (until you get used to it), but they're top quality material and look-wise. Also with a bit of preparation you can pre-build sections of the dungeon and reveal them as they're reached. I honestly only use them for complex battles or a particular encounter that I want the PCs to remember/take a bit more time with. Enough preparation can easily give you time to snap together the pieces. I'd definitely recommend them to someone who wants something for indoors visuals etc. | | Champion of Dagaronzie, Green Dragon DDM Have/Want List DDM Trade History & Feedback | |

| I have massive amounts of Dwarven Forge stuff and let me say there is nothing nicer looking and cool but it is amazingly expensive and takes up massive room to store. The other problem as others have noted about DF products is it takes time to set up and unless you have a special area that you want that "cool" factor for it seems tough to use efficiently without slowing a game session down.
What I have begun using of late is the D&D Dungeon Tiles and to be honest I really am becoming a big fan of these easy to use items. I just stick a piece of doubled over tape on the back so they stick to the table or poster board so they don't slip or move (large black poster board at the center of the table works best as it outline tiles nicely making everything easy to see). They are quick and easy to use and at about $10 per set are cheaper than many other options, and they look very nice to boot. I can see these becoming my preferred method and the players seem to appreciate the quick pace at which they can be used. | | Here is my have want list: http://www.maxminis.com/hw_list.asp?user=tirwin Successful Trades: Irav222 (x2), Darkfather, Kaya Kenobi, conanb1, dudeeehm, Uk, Master Elminster, tmertz, Shasack, Drewskie, et39100 (x2), Gaddszooks (x4), Romers, Weinbergphp, Vaasic, Navaire, lurch_E_bean, dobblegog, cjmax, jthm, Meds x2, hellfire2, w33zrfan, unmaker, sthig, Eldarion, drowdude, DM Lackey, griffat, eryador, tsech (not sure if this is his screen name?), Jordan, entropysoda, MikeWis, HalifaxDM, Targan, Drakul, wraith428, dmindock, mythoscreature, Tenlado,Chaotic Good, Asteroidjawa, Puggins, Bdog, slapdragon, Drakkengi,WarRabbit(2), Mnpatsfan, Greymouse, Snapdragon, Isondaho, Halofurry, Krush, Ekomega, Amator, Minatoman38, + many new trades recorded by maxminis, and never had a bad trade so please help keep the streak alive, thanks!
