| It makes you wonder what kind of navagation/sonar system they are using. Apparantly not that good. Secondly, I wonder if any of these "so called" submarines have made it thru. If so, I wouldn't mind having one just for leisure purposes.

If they were trying to use it for the economy, they would legalize it and allow it's commercial sale.

Well, first of all, the unemployment ding would be negligible. You have to lay off 150,000 people in USA to move the rate 1/10 of a percent.
Second, you'll need a lot of those people to stop illega sale, or transfer over to the FDA/ATF task forces.

Nah, smuggling is pretty darn expensive, it'a almost always cheaper to go legit. See: Prohibition vs. legal taxed alcohol sales.
Really, though, it's the societal implications that are the gravest if you want to talk repercussions.

DUDE when i go to the booze smugglers i can get a 40oz bottle for 20 bucks VS 45 bucks + TAX if i go to the store
and if i smoked the natives have that down pat a carton of smokes for 25 VS 75 + tax in a store
