At first I thought it must be that the Fourth Edition ochre jelly was medium, but it is large just like in Third Edition.  Then I thought maybe when it splits it becomes two mediums, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  So why is the ochre jelly in the Against the Giants set medium?

It's so that you can shape a large one any way you like. If it's in a large 2x2 space, it can't form a T, or an L. So, they made them medium and common, like the swarms. :)

Exactly...I,m with greyhaze.Jellies are formless and can vary it at will. When it shrinks, it is the medium sized one and when it enlarges,it becomes the old archfiends one (and devours a soldier)

Medium and common seems to be a good design choice for swarms and oozes. Flat surfaces was a really good choice for swarms (which have to enter enemy squares).

Have to say I'm very happy with the new Ochre Jelly's design.

Speaking of swarms, wonder if we'll see more of them soon...I'd love to see a rat swarm and a spider swarm (one that doesn't look like red ants that is) that is flat, medium-sized, and common.

Rat swarm would be great; I'd also hope for some flying swarms, perhaps some kind of birds & another swarm of wasps.

It is viable to use fluorescent paint onto a ochre jelly in order to create a credible green slime?

I am going to try to send a purple one to Gencon as a Community Draft prize.

Just finished painting four Ochre Jellies as a blue slime. Repaints work like a charm.
